Will Kissing Medium's Ass Get You More Love?

Does the algorithm reward writers who gush out their love all over Medium?
Will Kissing Medium's Ass Get You More Love?

My wife often tells me I’m too skeptical and pessimistic. And my perspectives often annoy her because she’s generally a positive person.

Perhaps I am just a negative vibe merchant. She could be right.

Yet I’ve seen a LOT of shit in my 53 years of life. I’ve experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, personally and professionally.

Honestly I consider myself a realist — someone who see things for what they really are. I have visions and insights that cannot easily be explained in any normal sense. There are ‘waves’ I catch no one could understand.

This weird phenomena is a blessing and a curse!

Yeah. It sounds completely insane and you’re probably right too. Maybe a straight jacket, Xanax, and three squares per day is my future life.

Could this be me? Mental health will drive you mad!

However. My insanity isn’t really the point of this article.

It’s really about kissing ass. Which is something I’ve never been able to do and has gotten me into more trouble more times than I can count.

Let’s move on shall we?

So lately my feed has been filled with all these glorified posts about Medium and the Friend of Medium membership.

People are losing their shit and gushing all over the opportunity this platform could provide. And hundreds of “experts” emerge daily about making money with Medium, despite not having any proven experience.

Just follow the yellow brick road!

Now there’s nothing wrong with falling in love with the idea you can grow your bank account by writing here. I too have visions of sugar-plumbs dancing in my head.

And yes. I have made some cash for my efforts at the rate of .23 per hour.

What annoys me is the sheer amount of writers who seem to be trying so damn hard to kiss Medium’s ass.

They sign up for the FOM membership and start pouring their souls into how wonderful and glorious it is to write on Medium — while earning 4X the amount of money than before. Which BTW isn’t true.

Then the process to seduce you into believing the same begins. 💋

If they can attract more people into the program while pouring their hearts out to the algorithm, maybe they will be worthy of Medium’s love and attention — and they will get boosted and rewarded financially.

Maybe it works and they’re laughing at me while counting their money.

Please know it’s not all writers who use these tactics either.

There are some amazing Medium creators who share their successes and failures because they have the right perspective of it all, and they also have the experience and credibility to back it up. Follow those people.

My final advice is this.

Don’t be fooled by the charlatans. Refuse to believe the lies and hype. See things for what they really are. Remember it’s what they gain from it.

Focus on writing from your heart. Share what you’re passionate about without chasing the money or kissing ass for hopeful rewards.

Be a fucking good writer and the rest will take care of itself.

Sorry for my cynicism. 🤷‍♂️

That’s my rant for the day.
