Nancy,

Thank you for stopping by and for your comment! Great insight and I agree about sometimes getting pulled down the paths we do not want to travel - and the lessons we can learn from that.

I pray that your son will have an incredible time in the Army and that he will remain safe. I think it is great that he is serving his country and doing what many others have feared to do. :)

I can identify with many of your reflections. Looking back on my 2011 I can see the activities that set a direction for change and success. They have not been monumental but they move in the right direction. I remember that we sometimes get pulled down paths we don't want to travel, but we gain new perspective on the journey. It's easy to forget this. My son left for the army today. I am very proud of him and excited as he starts this new adventure. During the induction ceremony I was very impressed by a young soldier who spoke to inspire and guide them at the start of this journey. Mentors are so important along the way.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This is a post I've wanted to write for sometime and hadn't found a way to do it tactfully. Thank you for writing it. I feel better :)

David,

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. I think being real is a double edged sword. On one side, people want you to be true to self, and then on the other side, when you do something THEY don't like, you get cut.

Ultimately I think each person needs to determine how transparent or "real" they want to be with others and then be prepared for whatever might come from it. I will say that those who tend to be who they really are usually the ones who get noticed in a crowd.
