Make Money in Web Design. A New Course and Coaching,

By James Dalman · Comments (0)
Saturday, August 7th, 2010

This September I will be launching a new course and coaching that will show people how to start, operate, and run a small profitable web design and blog business.

Over the last two years I have been asked by stay at home moms, bi-vocational pastors, students, and people ready to leave their current job on what they could do to make extra money or how to launch a business.  Every time I responded by saying learn how to use WordPress and then learn how to install and modify premium WordPress themes.  The biggest problem is that most people don’t know how to get started.  This is what I will be teaching on.

Make Money in Web Design will walk through all the steps of setting up your business including naming your business, marketing, branding, the minor technical skills you will need to know, how to price your services, invoicing, and creating a business system to run smoothly.  It covers everything that I know and more.  Students will also have access to all of the business forms I use and my treasure chest of design files.  There will also be group and personal coaching involved to ensure you progress through the course and hit your goals!

Please know, Make Money in Web Design is not a get rich scheme or magic bean.  It is a proven business model that I have used to generate a great income and will be a business you must work and invest in.

I am currently offering people the opportunity to get on the waiting list for when I launch.  Seating for this course will be limited and once the spots are filled they are gone! You can sign up for notifications for the latest details and be on the list with no obligation to enroll in the course.  Visit my page with the current information by clicking this link and you can sign up from there.

Also, those who sign up and enroll in my first class will be receiving the BETA launch discount … so don’t wait to get on the list.

My Rules for Twitter

Twitter

Twitter is an absolutely great tool and I love the simplicity and effectiveness of it.  140 characters.  Get straight to the point.

Using Twitter is also a must for businesses, non-profit organizations and people seeking to build their brands or community online.  It’s quickly becoming a badge of credibility.

The flip side is you have to understand the rules and ideas behind it.  Much has already been written about how to use Twitter so I’ll not regurgitate that information, but I will share some “rules of thumb” I’ve adapted I feel are beneficial.

Rule #1:  Turn It Off.

Yes, I really said that!  I don’t mean to not use it but to avoid killing your productivity.  Turn off those nagging alerts or apps on your desktop that draw you away from work.  Twitter can be a huge time suck if you leave it up throughout the day.

Rule #2: Quality over Quantity.

Sometimes I think Twitter is like high school…a popularity contest.  We all want to have fans, friends, or followers and it can make us feel great to have thousands, but let’s be honest – how many real friends can you really have? Sure, follow if you want but I prefer a stronger, tight knit community who really cares for me.  Wouldn’t you?

Rule #3: Maybe I’ll Follow, Maybe I Won’t.

I don’t intend to be mean but I am not one of those people who will follow everyone who follows me (see above).  I do check out every one who does follow me and will keep my eye on them before welcoming them to my family.  I also block people who are shady or love spam.

Rule #4:  If You Sell Fruitcake You Are Done!

It’s the gift most people don’t want.  On Twitter these are the people whose only goal is to promote, get followers, or tell you a bunch of crap.  If you machine gun tweets I’ll bazooka you!  It’s OK to promote and share your services or products but just do it tastefully.

Remember there are common courtesies and rules that all Tweeples generally adhere to but there are also some practices you will have to decide for yourself.  Use the tried and true and adapt the others to work for you.

Trying New Technology.

I think those people who are never willing to try are the ones who truly fail.

I’ve heard of many people who are scared to give blogging or social media a try. I understand that. It’s hard to embrace the unknown or the new. It’s easier to stay with the status quo. But those people who don’t step forward will fall behind. When you recognize that you should have moved it’s too late.

If this happens to be you … If you’re hesitant to make a leap – jump!!! You will find that the fear is not worth missing the exhilaration of the risk.

(BTW – this is my first post from an iPhone and the WordPress 2.0 app)
