2010 End of Year Review
Categories: Business, Life Journies
2010 was an incredible year in so many ways! It definitely went by much faster than I anticipated and it threw me a few curve balls that I never expected. There were monumental milestones achieved and new perspectives made on life. Overall, I think 2010 had more positives than negatives and believe that this will be a year that stands out in my entire life.
2010 Highlights:
- I celebrated 19 years of marriage with my wife and we both survived a horrible car wreck with God’s protection.
- The car wreck opened my eyes and lead me to build my own dream again and start a new business. There’s nothing like feeling and being a can of SPAM to help you refocus priorities.
- I turned that special age of 40 and realized that I am not immortal – which led to many nights curled up in the fetal position, lamenting and wailing.
- My princess turned 18 which led to more lamenting and wailing in the fetal position.
- We finally got involved in a church we love and which helped me to drop my mask and begin a healing process of epic proportions. Now I am working with the youth again and love it!
- I made some great friendships with awesome people including Becky McCray, Nate Thiry, Michael Lane, Howard McCray, Ursula Comeau, JD Bentley, Ryan Imel, Shirley Woods, and Eric Barker.
The Biggest Things I Learned (or Re-Learned) in 2010:
- Your family and loved ones should always be your priority – never your work or business.
- Don’t stay in a job or relationship that makes you feel as though your insides are being eaten by ravenous piranha.
- Surround yourself with the right people at all times, if possible.
- The amount of time you put into your work is not as important as being focused when you do work.
- Don’t wait to launch your idea or business. There is no such thing as perfect timing or situations.
- Money should never be the main reason for achieving your goals.
- Forgiveness is not for others benefit, but for yours. Letting go of any bitterness or anger will make your life better. (As my best friend says, Be BETTER not BITTER!).
- Life is so short. Focus and pay attention to the things that really do matter.
- Nose hair trimmers and Geritol isn’t as bad as it seems.
Of course there are many other ideas that I would like to pass on, but these are what I would deem the most worthy to remember. So cheers to 2010, but I am really excited about the new opportunities and journey ahead in 2011 — I hope that you are too!
I keep telling you – you are not old!! Turning 40 was not a bad thing!
Thanks for the mention – I’m very thankful for our friendship, and appreciate all the time you’ve spent listening to my venting sessions, my own lamenting sessions, and also giving me advice on various things! Thanks for being there! I’m looking forward to 2011 and helping you in any way I can!
James you are an amazing man that has rocked my word in such a short period of time. Friends like you only come once in a life time and I am glad that it has happened in my life.
Thanks for the mention. I look forward 2011 and what our friendship will be. If there is anything I can do to help you please let me know. I am here to serve you brother!!!
