What’s Your Bucket List?
Categories: Goals, Life Journies, Passions
This morning I was hit really hard! It’s not too often that I am left speechless.
LifeChurch.TV has a series going on called “At The Movies” and I knew I was going to dig it the moment I stepped out on the NW OKC campus and saw golf carts disguised as Tie Fighters and X-Wings, in addition to the theme music from Star Wars. But the totally groovy decor of the building was not the main thing that made me speechless…as cool as it was! No, the thing that really rocked my world this morning had to do with the message based on the movie, The Bucket List which stars Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson.
If you have not seen the movie then please go out and rent it this week.
The message Craig Groeschel powerfully delivered tied in the movie and the question of what are we going to do with our lives that lasts? He challenged us to do more than make and fulfill a Bucket List and rather exhorted us to make and follow a “God-List.” He asked not what would we do before our life passes, but what would we leave after our lives are over. Wow!!!
I have made both lists before and I admit that my follow through as not been as strong or successful on all of them as I like. What Craig shared today, is that for us, it’s not too late! We have time to take action if only we are willing.
This week I am going to put that challenge into practice and I am going to pray about a God list and follow through before it’s too late. I hope when God calls me home that I will have done something worthy and lasting with my time. I encourage you to do the same.
You need to enjoy life, while you leave. Thats what the list of things to do before your life passes. Then the legacy you leave behind the list of what you would leave after your life passes. I think one of the most important things you can leave behind is your knowledge and being remembered for your passion, after all you spent your whole life building it up. Becoming a mentor to someone is a great way to have your success be carried on. I recently started a website that is dedicated to having the greatest leaders pass their knowledge on to leave there legacy behind. James, what do you think someones greatest legacy they can leave behind is?
Ryan,
I think that a person can leave a good or bad legacy – and prefer that we leave with the good! This might be as you said…passing along your knowledge or wisdom.
For me, I feel it’s a combination of things such as my faith in God and what I did with the message He entrusted to me, as well as love, kindness, generosity, wisdom, and great values that are not prevalent in our culture anymore. When someone can honestly say they miss your presence or contribution or that their life was changed because of it, then I think that is a winner!
