What I Learned about Branson, Missouri.
Categories: Life Journies, Thoughts
I cannot tell you how glad I am to be back from Branson!
This past week we attended the National American Kids competition where my daughter had the opportunity to perform in two categories for singing. While the highlight was her performances (of course I am a proud parent) there were several things that I learned on this vacation and trip.
- Branson: I hate to admit it…I just don’t see the thrill of visiting there. Two one-way lanes of backed up traffic all the time with entertainment mostly designed for Baby Boomers & older people just didn’t appeal to me. Plus, Branson reminded me of one giant, filthy carnival.
- Melody Lanes Inn: Don’t stay there unless you are needing a place on the cheap. The room was OK but smelled musty like a bomb shelter, the Internet is “slightly” available in the lobby, the hot tub was luke warm, and you can only fit in the breakfast area if you are an Oompa Loompa. I generously give it one star.
- WiFi: What is this you might ask? Apparently in Branson this means dial-up. I could not get 3G or the WiFi Internet for more than 20 minutes the whole week. Apparently you must get a real hotel for access to the Web or own your own satellite. Everyone I talked with who needed a their “fix” could not get a hook up.
- Silver Dollar City: The park itself was really cool though it was only open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It took an hour to get into the park and an hour to get back to the hotel due to traffic. Kids will have fun, parents will be exhausted from walking the hills.
- The Prices: Apparently they don’t know the economy is hurting. The average price for a family of four to attend a show is $70. Include drinks and snacks you’ll probably burn a Ben Franklin. I opted out of these offerings. Food is more expensive as well so pack some of your own meals.
- Traffic. If you have a problem with road rage DO NOT ENTER Branson – ever! The easiest time we had getting around was leaving Sunday morning.
While many of my Branson experiences were negative, there were a few positives about this trip; the scenery was awesome, the people were friendly, and we had a great time hanging out with our family and friends. Overall though, I would not chose to go back or recommend it to friends who are looking to get away to recharge. Please keep in mind that this is only my two cents and that there are probably others who love Branson. I just happen to not be one.
