matchI love my Mac and the “brand experience” behind the Apple brand.  They’ve done a great job of keeping the main thing the main thing, but I wonder as they  continue to grow and become a cult brand, if they will always be able to keep that perspective and to keep their community karma in balance.

CNN.com just posted a story about how Apple rejected the “Me So Holy” app that was developed by Benjamin Kahle and I say kudos to Apple!  I am not a legalistic Christian who wants to burn everyone at the stake for doing the “unholy” but I believe there needs to be a line drawn in the sand, and that companies and individuals, must stand up for what it is morally right regardless of backlash or loss of potential profits.  One could say the ‘Me So Holy” app was created in fun but it amazes me just how people seem to be more flexible when it comes to mocking Jesus over other subjects.  What would happen if we created apps such as Me So Gay, Me So Jewish, or Me So Muslim?  There would be NO discussion about whether this should/would be allowed and I’m convinced that a public apology and counseling would probably soon follow.  There really is no room for any of it.

If we are going to make some things that are morally, ethically, or religiously off limits then ALL things such as this must be off limits. (BTW – the Baby Shaker app…are you freakin’ serious??? There is no humor in this and that is just sick!)

Back to my main point though — Apple has a right to decline any application they wish and I hope they continue to have the cajones to stand against such stupidity.  There is a point where we do need to have a brain and use it!  And while we could debate about people’s freedom of speech or ideas, we either need to allow everyone to say whatever they want without repercussion or make all sensitive subjects off limits but not either/or.
