The first and most important small business tip or piece of advice I could ever give is this:
GET THE MONEY YOU FEEL YOU DESERVE.
Don’t be hesitant to ask what you believe your product or service is worth. Don’t provide discounts or hook someone up for free if you don’t want to. You are in business to make a living, period!
I was too damn scared to ask what I was worth because I believed I would go hungry. Well I did! Not because of crappy work or bad skills, but because I didn’t trust in my abilities and talents. When my wife finally got tired of eating SPAM and Ramen Noodles she lovingly kicked my butt to develop my confidence (strange how that worked) so I would get what I was worth. God I love that woman!!!
My income and lifestyle completely changed for the best and I’ve never looked back.
Keep in mind that there is a time when starting out you may have to pay your dues. Everyone would love to make six figures from the start, but that doesn’t always happen so be reasonable in your expectations. However, it doesn’t mean you have to take a hosing from clients or customers. Do not be afraid to get the money you feel you deserve.
