3 REASONS TO CHOOSE THE SPECIALIST

There are too many people who want to be a generalist. They want to make everyone happy and serve every market. They dabble in a little of everything…a “Jack of All Trades, Master of None”. Ultimately though this mindset causes erosion of services and products and this does not serve the people they want to help. They try to juggle too many balls but eventually they are going to hit the ground.

I believe that we need to go back to using those who specialize in their core skills, services, or products. Here are three reasons why:

  • Knowledge: If you have a heart problem, who would you get advice from? A General Practitioner or a Heart Specialist? Knowledge and expertise is worth its weight in gold. Choosing a specialist may mean investing more money upfront but can keep you from paying a lot more in the long run
  • Personalized Service: Specialists are better at focusing on one thing – you! There are always exceptions but a generalist usually doesn’t have the time and resources to provide personal or custom service because they are juggling balls. A specialist can get to know you and provide the best service.
  • Results: Do you want the best possible results or outcome? A specialist can provide you with that because they do one thing and do it well. They excel in their niche service or product and will invest more into what they do because it is their passion and what drives them.

When I was a child we used to go to a shoe store where the owner was a shoe maker. He would take the time to measure my feet, ask me what I liked, and then pull out the perfect shoe for my feet, style, and comfort. He knew my family personally and we went there every year as long as I can remember. That has been over 25 years…it definitely left a positive impression! He was a specialist that gave us greater care and attention than any department store ever could. Don’t you want the same?
